MICROSOFT ENTRA ID integration
Joan Workplace + Microsoft Entra ID
Connect Joan to Microsoft Entra ID (formerly Azure Active Directory) via SCIM and let your identity provider handle all user provisioning automatically. No duplicate entries, no manual syncing — your Entra ID directory drives Joan.
What you can do with Entra ID and Joan
Here’s what the integration covers — what your team can actually do once Joan is connected to your Workspace.

Automate user provisioning
Users assigned to the Joan app in Entra ID are provisioned in Joan automatically — no manual account creation required.

Centralize user management
When SCIM is enabled, Joan’s built-in user management is disabled. Entra ID becomes the single source of truth for all Joan users.

Map user attributes to Joan
Sync name, email, active status, external ID, role, and department from Entra ID directly to Joan using standard SCIM attribute mapping.

Assign roles from Entra ID
Set Joan user roles — User or Office Manager — directly from Entra ID using app role assignments. No changes needed inside Joan.

Automatic deprovisioning
Disabling or removing a user in Entra ID revokes their Joan access automatically. No manual cleanup needed.

Group-based assignment
Assign entire Entra ID groups to the Joan app to provision multiple users at once — ideal for department-wide rollouts.

Frequently asked questions
What is SCIM and why does Joan use it with Entra ID?
SCIM (System for Cross-Domain Identity Management) is an open standard for automating user provisioning between identity providers and applications. Joan uses SCIM to let Microsoft Entra ID manage all Joan user accounts automatically, without manual intervention.
Where do I enable SCIM in Joan?
Go to Settings → Integrations in MyJoan, click SCIM, toggle it on, and generate a new authentication token. This token is used to authenticate the connection between Entra ID and Joan.
Does Joan support Group Mapping with Entra ID?
No. Joan currently supports user mapping only. Group Mapping must be disabled in the Entra ID provisioning settings. You can disable it after adding at least one active user to the Joan application.
Which user attributes does Joan support from Entra ID?
Joan maps the following Entra ID attributes: userPrincipalName (as userName), active status, givenName, surname, objectId (as externalId), department, and userType (role). Full mapping details are in the setup guide.
What roles can I assign from Entra ID?
Joan supports two roles: User and Office Manager. To assign the Office Manager role, create an app role in Entra ID with both the value and display name set to “Admin.”
Can I assign departments to users from Entra ID?
Yes. In the Joan SCIM Entra ID application, go to Users and Groups, open the user’s profile, click Edit, and update the Department field under Job Info. The department syncs to Joan automatically.
What should I do if users are not syncing?
Try provisioning them on demand within the Entra ID application. Also check that Provisioning Status is enabled and that the same user account is not being provisioned both individually and as part of a group.
How do I start provisioning after setup?
Navigate to the Provisioning section of your Joan SCIM Entra ID application and click “Start Provisioning.” Users will then sync from Entra ID to Joan automatically.
