HOW JOAN STARTED
From one scheduling problem to a platform
In 2015, Rok Zalar and Luka Birsa, co-founders of Visionect, identified a recurring problem: meeting rooms were overbooked, visually unavailable, or mismanaged. Existing solutions required wired installations and IT support — producing scheduling conflicts and underused space.
Until then, Visionect had spent eight years developing ultra-low-power ePaper displays. Zalar and Birsa applied that expertise to build Joan: a wireless, battery-powered room scheduler that integrates with Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace and enables a cable-free installation with no IT involvement required.
Joan started by solving one problem: real-time room availability on the door. The platform has since expanded to desk booking (2020), parking, asset reservations, visitor management (2023), workplace digital signage (2025), and workplace analytics.
Joan hardware is designed and manufactured by Visionect in Europe. All devices are built in-house.
