Every Joan employee badge has an NFC chip that works like a standard access card. Your access control vendor sets it up in your access control system, the same way as your current cards. Joan doesn’t configure or connect to your access control system.

Door access and the badge’s display are separate. NFC doesn’t change what the badge shows, and Bluetooth updates from the Joan Workplace mobile app don’t change door access.
The badge works with access control systems that support NFC cards with this chip. Ask your access control vendor whether your readers support MIFARE DESFire EV3, ideally before you order badges.
- Share the chip details above with your access control vendor.
- Your vendor sets up each badge in your access control system, the same way as a standard access card. Usually, they load your system’s security keys onto the badges.
- Assign the badge to the employee in the Joan Workplace mobile app as usual.
After that, you can remove the standard cards that the Joan badges replace from your access control system. If you get stuck, contact Joan support or your Joan sales contact.
- Mark the badge as lost or stolen in the Joan Workplace mobile app or MyJoan.
- Block the badge in your access control system. Joan can’t do this for you.
Unassigning the badge in Joan clears what’s shown on it. It doesn’t remove access rights. Remove the badge from your access control system as well.
