## {#connect-a-device-to-a-wi-fi-network}Connect a device to a Wi-Fi network

To pair a device to [MyJoan](http://my.getjoan.com) account, you must first connect it to your Wi-Fi network that meets specific requirements to ensure the device functions optimally.

To find out what those requirements are, see [Wi-Fi network requirements for Joan devices](/help/joan-devices/wi-fi-network-requirements-for-joan-devices).

Connecting the device to the network is a straightforward process, and you can refer to a detailed guide on how to do so in [How to connect a Joan device to Wi-Fi?](/help/joan-devices/how-to-connect-a-joan-device-to-wi-fi).

## {#connect-a-device-to-a-server}Connect a device to a server

The Joan system comprises of three components - a device, the [MyJoan](http://my.getjoan.com), and the **Visionect Software Suite (VSS)** server.

The **VSS** server acts as an intermediary between Joan devices and the preferred calendar solution, making sure your devices are working properly and displaying the correct calendar information on displays of connected Joan devices.

Thus, it is crucial to connect your Joan device to a server in order for it to function. Detailed instructions on how to connect your Joan device to a server can be found in [How to connect a device to the server?](/help/joan-devices/how-to-connect-a-device-to-the-server-1).

Joan devices can be hosted in the cloud. To learn more about hosting, see [In the cloud hosting](/help/joan-devices/in-the-cloud-hosting).

## {#provide-the-devices-serial-number}Provide the device’s serial number

Each Joan device has a Universally Unique identifier (UUID) or serial number.

This number is visible on the packaging of the device denoted by the abbreviation S/N as well as in the Joan Configurator once the device is connected.

With it, the device can easily be located on a server (in the cloud or on-premises) and monitored for performance (battery life, Wi-Fi signal strength, etc.).

If you are experiencing any issues with a specific device, please contact us at [support@getjoan.com](mailto:support@getjoan.com) and provide this serial number along with a brief description of what the problem is, and we will help you solve it.

## {#acquire-the-devices-log-file}Acquire the device’s log file

Each Joan device keeps a log file throughout its operation containing information related to the devices hardware, firmware, and settings and may provide great insight in cases where the device is not operating to its full capabilities.

Instructions on how to acquire the log file can be found in [How to acquire the device's log file?](/help/joan-devices/how-to-acquire-the-devices-log-file).

Important note: Joan devices do not keep any of your personal or calendar information stored in the log file. Only device-related data is tracked.

If you are experiencing any issues with a specific device, please contact us at [support@getjoan.com](mailto:support@getjoan.com) and provide the log file with a brief description of what the problem is, and we will help you solve it.

## {#reboot-your-device}Reboot your device

Mistakes and hiccups in Joan’s operation may happen. In such cases, a simple reboot of the device will refresh all the settings and resolve any issues automatically.

Instructions on how to reboot your device can be found in [How to reboot a Joan device?](/help/joan-devices/how-to-reboot-a-joan-device).

If the reboot did not resolve the issue, please send us a message at [support@getjoan.com](mailto:support@getjoan.com) with the [device’s serial number](/help/joan-devices/where-to-find-the-serial-number-of-a-joan-device) and the [log file](/help/joan-devices/how-to-acquire-the-devices-log-file) with a brief description of what the problem is and we will help you resolve it.
