Employee badges are free to use until 15 November 2026. After 15 November 2026, each badge in use needs a badge licence, added to your [Joan plan](/help/plans-billing/joan-subscription-plans).

## What do I need to use employee badges?

A Joan plan: Team, Business, Organization or Enterprise. No plan includes badge licences, so you add them separately. Badge licences are billed yearly.

## Which badges need a licence?

A badge licence belongs to a badge, not to a person. Every badge in use needs one, whether it’s an employee badge or a visitor badge.

A badge [marked as lost or stolen](/help/employee-badges/manage-employee-badges) gives its licence back right away.

## What happens if I don’t have enough licences after 15 November?

You won’t be able to manage your badges until you have a licence for each badge in use. You can buy more licences in [MyJoan](/help/plans-billing/plans-billing-settings-1), or through your Joan partner or reseller.

## I’m a new customer on a trial. Do I need licences?

New customers get a [30-day trial](/help/plans-billing/joan-trial-subscription-guide) that includes badge licences for every badge in use.
